Has the traditional education system become an obstacle
to your child’s learning?

If you are like most parents of twice-exceptional children, you have found that traditional education hinders your child’s learning. If your child is bored, unchallenged, or not learning something new every day, there is a better way.

At Edison Academy SLO, our personalized learning environment allows twice-exceptional students to develop their strengths and talents to achieve their full potential.

We do this by:

  • Creating an individualized learning environment based on each students’ readiness, talents, and interests.
  • Using a strengths-based approach to learning by utilizing students’ learning styles.
  • Providing diverse outlets for students to gain and express knowledge, including mentorships, audio-visual materials, art, drama, design, and demonstration.

Our students experience a safe learning environment where they are engaged in self-designed projects, growing according to their unique timeline, and using their talents to make a difference in their community.

We invite you to join us for the 2016-2017 school year!

School begins on September 6, 2016 and ends June 2, 2017. Our school is located at 3396 Johnson Avenue, San Luis Obispo, CA (at the Church of the Nazarene).

Full-Time Gifted Education Program

Individual Learning Plans are developed in collaboration with our students which take into account their instructional level, learning styles profile, interests, and talents. This approach allows each student to develop their strengths and talents according to their unique timeline.

Our curriculum is project/problem-based where students engage in the thinking and doing of real-world professionals in an open-ended format. Additionally, critical and creative thinking skills are incorporated through the use of Sandra Kaplan’s Depth and Complexity concepts.

Social-emotional learning is incorporated into the curriculum in order to nurture resilience and self-control.  As many gifted children experience emotional sensitivity, perfectionism, and/or high amounts of physical energy, they need explicit instruction in strategies to help them in these areas, as well as, a safe and accepting environment to practice them in.

Fridays will consist of enrichment clusters and field trips where students will engage in deep learning in interest areas with peers and mentors who share the same passions. Fridays will also be a time for service learning which gives students the opportunity to act on their altruism and deep sense of justice, which can be strong traits in gifted children.

Lastly, learning progress will be measured in multiple ways including performances, illustrations/creations, projects, written work, portfolios, and tests. Students will collaborate with teachers to develop their own goals and standards in assessing their work so that they can develop into autonomous, self-directed learners.

Tuition for the 2016-2017 School Year

  • Full-Time Gifted Education Program: $14,660
  • 3-Day Homeschool-Hybrid Gifted Education Program: $9,670

The tuition for the 2016-2017 school year is called our “Founding Families” tuition. This means that families who enroll this year will never experience an increase in tuition as a thank you for their support in our first year. Families who enroll in the part-time option this year and desire to enroll in the full-time program next year will still receive the 2016-2017 tuition for the full-time program.

Tuition may be paid in full or on a monthly basis. If making monthly payments, a deposit (equaling the monthly payment) plus the first month’s payment is required before instruction begins. The deposit will be applied to the final monthly payment.
